Meet The Team
Owner & Practice Manager
Scott Boltson
Scott was born and raised in Virgina. He graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Business Degree. Scott was then accepted into Cornell University’s School of Veterinary Medicine where he became one of the few Cornell certified Farriers (equine podiatrist). He went on to run a successful hoof care business for several years.
Scott later decided to partner with a veterinarian to open the country’s first Farrier & DVM Co-Owned practice. Twelve years later Scott decided to migrate the practice to small and companion animals. He opened Rustburg Veterinary Clinic in June 2021.
On a typical day at the clinic, Scott can often be found taking orders from Chief, the Hospital Business Manager (and Goodest Boy) or attempting to convince his staff that their large canine patients are actually just really tiny horses. In his free time, Scott enjoys calvary reenactments, traveling, and spending time with his horses.
Practice Manager
Mike Pickeral
Mike was born and raised right here in Rustburg, VA. At age 18, Mike left to travel the U.S. before joining the military. He served his country for 8 years on active duty. After leaving the service, he explored the U.S. for another couple of years until he finally felt ready to settle down and get married to his wonderful wife, Tracy. They have a son, Noah, who they love very much. While at first Mike made a living as a stone worker, he decided to change careers and enter the veterinary field, where he works happily today.
Office Manager/ Head Dog
"Chief"
Chief was rescued by Scott in June 2022 at 3 years old and given a new chance at life. They now travel everywhere together. He loves meeting other dogs, cats, and especially new people. His most favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with his 10 inch “Jolly Ball” (a toy designed for horses) or take the large ball in his mouth and run by “booping” the horses at Scott’s farm. Whenever Scott is at the clinic, Chief comes as well. He is always very happy to say hello to a patient or their owner.
